Nerd Nite is a monthly lecture series that takes place in bars in 100+ cities around the world. We love bringing you all free, entertaining, and informative talks about nerdoms of all shapes and sizes.

Title: The Creative Process
Blurb: How do writers turn a roomful of ideas into a story? Mark Fenton draws on his experience in writers’ rooms for WWE, Adult Swim, and video game company Magic Tavern to explore the creative process and the collaboration that brings stories to life.
Speaker: Mark Fenton: Mark Fenton is an Albuquerque-based freelance writer and a graduate of Full Sail University’s Creative Writing for Entertainment program, where he studied screenwriting, short stories, and comic book scripts. His writing experience includes work for Adult Swim and WWE, as well as comics, film, and television. An active member of the comic book community, Mark organizes the annual Southwest Comic Book and Creator Showcase, bringing creatives and fans together for a weekend of creativity, connection, and fun.

makes acids acidic, it can stop a bullet, it holds proteins together. But how does it work? What is it? Who or what are you Mr. H-Bond? From the unlikely/mysterious vantage point (for most) of
Molecular Orbital theory we will take a sashay through the wonders, and mysteries, of hydrogen
bonding.
Speaker: Dr. Scott Gordon: Dr. Scott Gordon is a chemist, engineer, and serial entrepreneur who failed high school chemistry, but went on to earn a doctorate in inorganic chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. His work spans chemistry, materials science, and medicine, with 50 papers and 10 patents along the way, and he’s helped isolate the world’s smallest water cube, built a biofuels refinery, and developed new ways to image the brain. He’s also taught roughly 1,000 students and is currently building aluminum batteries. He describes his specialty as solving “very hard problems very slowly”. A serial entrepreneur, he has started/played a principal role/worked in ~ 6 small businesses. Two got bought out, three went under, one is still standing. In spite of it all, he thinks pushing back the frontiers of what’s possible is worth the struggle`
Title: Something You Otter Know
Blurb: North American river otters (Lontra canadensis) were once native to New Mexico. After a 60 year absence, they are now back and thriving. This talk will explore the natural history of this incredibly adorable, yet elusive species. Learn about how our actions can contribute to healthy waterways and allow them to flourish.
Speaker: Bri Santilli: Bri Santilli (she/ her) earned a degree in Zoology from Ohio State University before moving to New Mexico where she has worked with otters professionally for the past seven years. While she has a passion for fish and marine life, river otters hold a special place in her heart.
